Weekly Roundup: January 24, 2025

This week has been A LOT. I expected a firehose of news with Trump’s first days of office, but didn’t anticipate just how many totally upsetting things would happen right away. I am trying to figure how to stay informed and sane simultaneously. I suspect that will be the challenge of the next four years. I’m also going to make a concerted effort to focus on the good. There’s still so much good in this crazy world.

Quote of the week:
“The older you get…the deeper the love you need.” –Leonard Cohen

What I’m reading:
Headshot by Rita Bullwinkel. It’s a peek into the world of female boxing via the lives of different characters who are boxers. I love books that take me places I’ve never been.

What I’m listening to:
I binge-listened to For the Love of Men: From Toxic to a More Mindful Masculinity by Liz Plank and I am obsessed with this book. Every man and woman should read it. I wish these types of books were required reading in schools. I’m now listening to Sex and World Peace because Liz Plank referenced it in her book. It’s not as engaging as her book, but still interesting.

What I’m watching:
I finished Season 1 of No Good Deed on Netflix. Loved it. My boyfriend and I just finished Season 2 of Silo and cannot wait for the next season.

Writing news:
I’m still gazing lovingly at the book cover for Woman on the Verge on a daily basis. It’s so pretty. I’m super excited for the launch of this book. Lots of fun things in the works.

Interesting things I learned this week:
I was too stuck in shock and awe this week to learn anything.

What I’m grateful for:

  • My daughter’s weekend trip. Her dad took her up near Tahoe and she had a blast. She’s such a lucky kid and I’m so happy she has so many people who love her
  • My publisher (Lake Union). They’ve been so supportive
  • My daughter’s in-home performance of songs from Legally Blonde. I think I have a musical theater kid on my hands and I’m loving it
  • Homemade ice cream. Got a Ninja CREAMi for Christmas and it is amazing
  • Phone calls and texts with friends who get it
  • Finally making it to my friend’s yoga studio for a super-relaxing class
  • Long runs that have felt like exactly what my mind and body need
