End of March, here we are. This has been one of the busiest and most stressful months of my life. April will also be hectic, but I have my eyes on the prize of downtime at the end of April. Of course, I’ve probably just jinxed myself.
Quote of the week:
“I dwell in possibility.” —Emily Dickinson
What I’m reading:
A Mother’s Guide to the Apocalypse by Hollie Overton. I met Hollie at an event years ago and loved her immediately. This book comes out in August and I am LOVING it. It’s about triplet sisters trying to figure out what happened to their mother (did she die? did she disappear?) after the Collapse. Very timely with the apocalyptic vibes in the air right now.
What I’m listening to:
Rabbit Moon by Jennifer Haigh. This one comes out on Tuesday and I’m really liking it. I’ve been doing more fiction on audio lately. It’s great on long runs.
What I’m watching:
White Lotus Season 3. Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke. And Surviving Black Hawk Down (omg so intense).
Writing news:
I am almost at the finish line for this round of edits on my 2026 novel, sending to my publisher next week. Ah! I’m planning to switch gears back to launch prep for Woman on the Verge.
I had a bookiversary this week! I wrote this book with two therapist-friends to support women going through pregnancy loss. I lost four babies before having my daughter and the experience of that changed me forever.
Interesting things I learned this week:
- The blobfish, once dubbed the world’s ugliest animal, was just crowned as Fish of the Year by a New Zealand environmental group
- Related: There is something called the Ugly Animal Preservation Society
- Brazilian couple Manoel and Maria Dino recently broke the world record for the longest marriage of a living couple (85 years!). The all-time record is a US couple in the 19th Century married almost 89 years
- A new study found that dancing is even better than exercise at reducing stress
- According to a 2022 Pew survey of single adults, just 36% of single women were looking for romance, compared to 54% of single men
- Japan has one vending machine for every 40 people
- Elon Musk makes $8M A DAY from the American government. That’s enough to pay the annual salary of 112 public school teachers…EVERY DAY
What I’m grateful for:
- I did a 20-mile run this morning! One more 20-miler before I enter taper mode. The Boston Marathon is on April 21
- Yoga class. I’ve been getting out on Friday evenings thanks to a lovely babysitter and it has been SO GOOD for me
- The puppies next door. My neighbor is fostering and they are just so adorable. I am considering adopting one but I know in my heart this would be crazy for me to do given everything else on my plate
- Healthy household after a scary trip to Urgent Care over the weekend. My daughter’s earrings got stuck in her ear lobes. I will not go into details but it was traumatic. She is fine now, thank goodness
- Figuring out an ending I like for my new novel. Always the hardest part for me
