So, January felt like it was a year long, I’m pretty sure February didn’t even happen, and now it’s almost the end of March? I cannot keep up. I’m also in the midst of one of the most hectic times of my life (so many things all at once). They say time flies when you’re having fun, but it also seems to fly if you’re incredibly stressed out. Ha.
Quote of the week:
Not a quote, but a sweet little poem by Maia that I stumbled upon:
i hope
when you come home to yourself
there are flowers lining the front porch
that were left from all the women
you were before
What I’m reading:
Little Rot by Akwaeke Emezi. I can’t remember how this book got in my queue, but I’m glad it did. Sometimes I like to read novels that I can relate to, and sometimes I like to read novels that take me somewhere totally new. This one is the latter. From the synopsis: One weekend. The elite underbelly of a Nigerian city. A party that goes awry. A tangled web of sex and lies and corruption that leaves no one unscathed. It’s so good.
What I’m listening to:
Counting Backwards by Jacqueline Friedland. This one is great on audio. I’m only an hour in, but really liking it.
What I’m watching:
White Lotus Season 3. Formula 1: Drive to Survive. And Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke.
Writing news:
My 2026 novel is due to my publisher in TEN DAYS. I am doing some editing and finessing right now. Very much looking forward to turning it in.
Interesting things I learned this week:
- An Alabama woman named Ann Elizabeth Fowler Hodges is the only known person to have been directly hit by a meteorite. This happened back in 1954
- By 2030, 45% of women are predicted to be single
- Forever 21 is going out of business in the U.S. It’s the end of an era!
- AI search engines cite incorrect news sources at an alarming 60% rate, according to a study by the Columbia Journalism Review
- Tug of war was in the Olympics from 1900 to 1920
- Just 18% of voters think the economy is doing well, about as low as any point in the last decade
- Tesla stock has fallen over 40% since the start of the year. Elon Musk has lost more than $120 BILLION
- Only 56% of U.S. adults know that raw or unpasteurized milk is less safe to drink that pasteurized milk. Wtf. The data is there, people. One stat: Unpasteurized milk, consumed by only 3.2% of the population, and cheese, consumed by only 1.6% of the population, caused 96% of illnesses related by contaminated dairy products
What I’m grateful for:
- Fresh haircut. My long hair was driving me nuts (photo below)
- Fun St. Patrick’s Day. My daughter’s amazing trap did not catch the leprechaun, but he did leave us cookies—how nice!
- My nephew’s 9th birthday. He and my daughter are best buds. We love him so much
- Successful 18-mile run with some speedwork mixed in. I’ve had a tough week and wasn’t sure how this would go, but I did it
- The puppies next door. They’ve multiplied. My neighbor is now fostering 4 of them and they are so cute (photo below)
